The Arts Centre
Interesting exhibits and shops in several of the buildings. The stories of the quake and renovation process are very interesting. Fun places to wander around and good cafe options as well.

The sketch of the house in the sky is part of the photo. It wasn't added digitally. It is suspended in the air with wires.

Te Aroha Domain
Beautiful domain with a lovely view over the town and the plain. Wonderful thermal opportunities, housed in beautifully restored heritage buildings. A treat to visit if only to see the geyser (1minutes walk from the domain's roadway), and the historic mineral footbath (also 1 minutes walk.)

Sad to see a scale down a bit.Atmosphere also less festive with fewer local tourists.Hope that the city cheer up a bit the next time we visit and not lost the charm.

Okains Bay Museum
This museum houses a truly impressive collection of Maori artifacts, from all parts of New Zealand. The Waka collection is among the best in New Zealand. Items are carefully displayed and labels give a clear explanation of significance and purpose. The colonial section is well set out, showing a wide range of items across the life of colonial New Zealanders. The cottages and other buildings are well maintained and have a sense that the owners and workers have just stepped out for a momentThe museum is well worth a visit.

Possibly the best collection of Maori artifacts you are going to see. Well worth it. Allow 2 to three hours .
