Finally went in, after driving past many times, and so glad we did. New people have done a lot to the place, it shows just how enthusiastic they are. We took a ride on a steamboat which was great fun, especially the commentary. The museum was interesting with a lot of stories, and it was lovely to just wander around the grounds. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful beach! Perfect for a day trip. Bring a snorkeling kit or hire a kit/transparent canoe. Really good marine life that you are able to get close up to.

Exciting experience! First time sailing.Never know sailing would be so convenient and cheap($21 for student). Mariners are so friendly and not crowded on weekday.

Port Chalmers Maritime Museum
Great place to visit for free, huge collection of all sorts of model ships, all very interesting and well cared for.Lots of information available and very friendly and knowledgeable staff. We had limited time here, but will be back for a more extensive visit, this place has easy access for mobility impaired visitors.Highly recommended.

Lots of fun for a family with an 8-year old. The staff were amazing, taking time to show us the microscope and develop our knowledge of the various sea life. Touch pool was fun also. Reasonably priced and worth spending an hour if your near Leigh. Very limited parking - we parked at the Goat Island reserve site and walked 3 mins to the centre.

Make sure you read the opening hours and take a donation. Not very well signposted and the walk is a little bit overgrown but well worth the visit.
