Free! Flat walk in a loop, mud and steam to delight

Spent several days here. Fascinating history.6kms of easy track/boardwalk/cycle trail around the lake perimeter. Clean toilets and it has small rubbish bins. Quite busy with fishermen during the daytime.

I did the walk from quarry car park to the dam and back. Took me about 3 hours round trip with a quick stop for lunch. Didn’t come across a single person the entire hike, just some deer and goats.The trails are overgrown in several areas and there were spider webs across the trail the ENTIRE time (though that may be seasonal). I didn’t find the trails themselves that scenic but enjoyed the dam at the end.There are trail markings on the trees throughout the entire walk so it’s not hard to follow. Just pay attention otherwise it’s easy to miss one and you’ll have to backtrack your steps to get back on the trail.

.(12/2017)This Scenic Lookout is part of beautiful Muriwai reserve spread around the Muriwai beach.Well maintained. Good directions provided at short distances.Lovely views.There are short routes / trails towards the beach.Quiet and peaceful reserve. Ideal place to spend some time with yourself or to do meditation.Within easy reach from the beach or parking area.Seating and benches are provided at regular distances for taking rest and enjoying the views.Lot of viewpoints with dedicated viewing areas and seats can be found during the walk.Spacious parking area. Wheelchair parking is available and there is wheelchair accessible entrance.

Bird wetlands with boardwalks, viewing hides, wide flat paths for walkers and biking. See rare white spoonbills. Excellent !!

Nice walkway around the mangrows and the wetland area, kids loved looking at the fish and crabs among the mangrows.

Awesome place for a bike ride. Especially on a nice day
