Devcich Historic Farmstead
This was a family trip to the Coramandel Peninsula and northern New Zealand. We were looking for a location in the country and this one was the most beautiful, interesting, and unique experience we could have asked for. This historic farm and home are amazing. The house is original to the property, but updated nicely in a very comfortable way and suited our group of nine. The nearby river was convenient for exploring and fishing. The location was close to Thames and was convenient for day trips to other adventures in the northern region. The property owner was wonderful and very responsive throughout out stay if needed. Best trip ever!

Okarito RainA rainbow is arching over the majestic rainforests of New Zealand’s South Island. As the wettest part of the country the land is biologically and culturally shaped by the impact of its frequent orographic rains.

Real interesting little tour, the 2 volunteers really knew their stuff and great an interesting overview of year history of the house. Nice walks around the area too.

Napier Prison
Very disappointing. $30 ticket, the tour was on full volume and still too quiet so you couldn't hear it. Half the rooms and areas were closed off and fenced off for repairs. So basically only saw half of the prison. Not worth the visit.

Further to an earlier note I had posted, I went back to the Kauranga Valley again this year with Lorenza Devcich, to again look at the work she had continued to do on her family property. Its amazing wait she has been able to do with these building which hold so much history. My background is forestry and saw milling and to walk through the old family saw mill still with old documents attached to posts, tools in buckets etc etc, such a special place. The fact that the mill is quiet derelict adds more wonder to the hard work these people did to achieve their days work. The store set up I guess by Lorenza's grand parents to provide equipment and food to the gum diggers as they arrived in the Kauranga valley with the dream of going out into the forests to recover Kauri GUM"

Petone Settlers Museum
A great wee spot, informative and well presented. It's not a big museum, but the exhibits are well chosen and interesting. The place is clean and thoughtful.Again, it doesn't take ages to get around, but well worth a visit.Closed Monday& Tuesday, but open the rest of the week, and free to go to. Can't go wrong, really.
